Geoff Simmons runs a community history project in south west London called Summerstown182 alongside his job as a graphic designer. This involves Guided Walks and Talks, working with schools and putting up plaques. Over the last ten years a trail of these have emerged along the Wandle Valley, shining a light on some of the lesser-known history in this area. His First World War centenary project was lottery-funded and told the stories of 182 names on a local memorial. He has worked closely with councils and many other community groups and charities and been involved in the GLA's London Unseen programme celebrating diversity in the public realm. His 'London Irish History Cycle Trail' is free to download as are 26 'Great Escapes' which hopefully helped local people through lockdown. He's recently been involved in highly successful food heritage tours as part of Wandsworth's South Asian Heritage Month, African Caribbean Food Month and the Tooting Food Festival. Following the borough's Cultural Impact Award he is starting work soon developing a multicultural heritage trail for Merton United.
